The North Hollywood Shootout was a confrontation between two career bank robbers, Larry Phillips Jr and Emil Matasareanu and LAPD in 1997. During the battle nearly 2,000 rounds were exchanged in an event that forever altered the way law enforcement interacted with armed suspects.

Plastered all over new cycle, the interaction between Phillips and Matasareanu further cemented weapons like the Bushmaster Dissipator, Norinco AK and Beretta 92 as true icons in American culture and further solidified the Cops and Robbers archetype (don’t tell your dad but the bad guys are always cooler).

We aren’t advocating that you go get in a shootout with your local law enforcement, just bringing some attention to one of the most wild and intense bank robberies and the effect it’s had on our culture.
